116 numbers given the go-ahead Industry regulator Ofcom says Pan-European 116 helpline numbers will be introduced in the UK.
The 116 numbers will allow people to call telephone services “of social value” - such as missing children hotlines and emotional support helplines - from the same number, regardless of where they are living in the European Union.
Ofcom has confirmed plans to introduce the 116 helpline phone numbers - and launched the selection process to allocate the first three, 116000, 116111 and 116123 - to suitable service providers by September
The announcement follows an Ofcom consultation document published last year which asked for stakeholders’ views.
