BT applauded for disability policies

Alongside the British Library, BT has been named the UK’s best private sector performer in putting disability issues at the heart of business by the Employers’ Forum on Disability (EFD).

The company was awarded the accolade ahead of more than 100 other organisations following the forum’s bi-annual evaluation of performance on disability issues by public and private sector companies in the UK.

Other organisations participating in the evaluation included Barclays Plc, British Airways, Ministry of Defence and Sainsbury’s.

Across the EFD assessment, BT scored highest on the customer theme. Results show that most progress has been achieved in putting in place policies and procedures that will enable disabled customers, clients and service users to fully access BT products and services.

Caroline Waters, BT director of people and policy, said: “This benchmark is important recognition that the policies, procedures and products we have created make inclusion a reality for disabled people and ensure the future success of our business."

Last month the company was also recognised as one of the UK’s champions for older workers by the AARP (formerly American Association of Retired Persons).
