The UK charity Age Concern has published a BT-supported guide for older people on the benefits of getting online.
Make the Most of the Internet offers a wealth of “how to” advice on keeping in touch with friends and family via e-mail, instant messaging, internet telephony, social networking and blogs.
It also provides tips on saving time and money by shopping online and visiting price comparison websites. It points out, too, the advantages of accessing government services online - for example, claiming benefits, renewing a television licence or passport, or applying for a new car tax disc.
The guide says users can find information on just about anything online - so long as they keep security in mind and search for information safely.
BT’s interest in the Age Concern online guide is part of its ongoing support for the charity’s digital inclusion network - which last year provided internet training to more than 90,000 older people.
