BT has become the only FTSE 100 Company to hold the coveted 'See it Right' accreditation for its inclusion website, www.bt.com/inclusion.
BT was awarded the highly sought certification by both the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) and AbilityNet for the easy navigation, layout and usability of the Inclusion website.
The ‘See it Right’ certification is given to companies which cater for the needs of people who are blind, partially sighted or with disabilities, when trying to access the internet and online services. BT received high praise for its inclusive thinking when designing web services for customers both from RNIB’s web access team and AbilityNet, whose UseAbility certification was also awarded to BT after disabled user testing. The Inclusion site now displays a joint logo from the two organisations.
Fazilet Hadi, the group director - Inclusive Society, for the RNIB says: "The internet has become indispensable to people with sight problems for vital information, accessing services and keeping in touch. It's really important that blind and partially sighted people are fully included and are able to easily use Web services. More and more organisations like BT are thinking about how their customers with sight problems use their sites, and See it Right accreditation proves that all barriers stopping blind people making full use of their site have been tackled."
The design and accessibility of BT’s Inclusion website means those with visual impairments and those with other disabilities aren’t hindered from obtaining useful information about BT and its services; but can easily navigate their way through the site.
Liz Williams, from BT Retail said: “This is a major achievement for us. This accreditation not only recognises the accessibility of our web site but also our long term endeavours to ensure our products and services are accessible to the widest possible audience. As technology has progressed, so has our determination to make sure that everyone is connected to and has access to the products, services and information we have. We strive to make sure we have an all inclusive approach to everything we do and we’re proud of the recognition the certification has brought.”
