itea and biscuits week offers older people across Britain the opportunity to get involved in technology 'taster sessions' at local Age Concern and other supporting organisations.
At last year’s launch event‚ thousands of ‘silver surfers’ participated in hundreds of events around the UK.
It is important that greater efforts are made to tackle both social and digital inclusion amongst older people. This year, the week's events follow new research which shows there is a digital divide in Britain between pensioners and non-pensioners, and pensioners are missing out financially as a result.
Age Concern and Help the Aged are looking for an Internet Champion to represent the charity and provide a leading light for the estimated 6.4 million people 65+ who have NEVER used the internet.
The winner of the Internet Champion search will receive a laptop computer, a complete BT package including BT Total Broadband, as well as an all-expenses paid trip to London. For more information visit: www.ageconcern.org.uk/it.
BT and Age Concern have been working together since 2005, to tackle social exclusion among older people by helping older people get online, learn about new technologies and use ICT to improve their quality of life.
