BT announces breakthrough in fight to combat nuisance calls

Monitoring the network

BT announces a breakthrough that will help customers avoid nuisance calls in the future. We will monitor the BT network to proactively identify nuisance calls it believes causes customers hassle and prevent them from reaching their home phone.

We estimate that with this new service, we’ll be able to stop 25m unwanted calls a week. Customers will be able to let us know category of calls they want to avoid; such as international calls or withheld numbers - and we’ll automatically prevent them reaching their home, free of charge.

Full details of the new technology will be revealed closer to launch - towards the end of 2016.
