At BT we are committed to consulting with older and disabled people and their representatives to ensure their needs are being met in the development of new products and services. We do this in a number of ways:

Professional Contacts

Our Consumer Affairs and Inclusion team operate a unique contact management strategy with social services as well as health care and independent living professionals across the UK. This service provides a forum for professionals working with older and disabled people to let us know their clients communications needs. This relationship also gives us the opportunity to obtain direct feedback from clients.

Customers

We consult with disabled customers who have expressed a wish to be involved in trialing new products or services aimed at the disability market. If you would like to be involved in trialing new products or services aimed at the disability market please contact us.

Employees

At BT we are positive about employing disabled people, winning the 'national company' category in Remploy's 2005 'Leading the way awards'. We regularly consult with disabled colleagues who may have expertise in areas such as the use of software packages for visually impaired users or text communication for hearing or speech impaired people.

Organisations

We work with both organisations of and for disabled people including TAG and Hearing Concern.

TAG are an umbrella organisation of associations representing hearing impaired, deafened, Deaf and deaf-blind people. We meet on a regular basis to discussissues, share news and consult on new developments.

Hearing Concern represents deaf and hard of hearing people whose main mode of communication is speech. We meet with their telecomms committee roughly every 6 months to update them on new developments and products and discuss any issues.
