Questions about BT's accessible products

Hearing

Q. If someone has difficulty hearing the phone ring, can the ring be made louder?

A. Yes, many of our phones include an adjustable ringer which let you change the volume and sound of the ringer to suit your level of hearing.

Q. What are "hearing aid compatible" phones?

A. If a phone is described as "hearing aid compatible" then it has an inductive coupler, which works directly with a hearing aid to give a clearer sound. To use the inductive coupler your hearing aid has to be switched to the T or Telecoil setting, also sometimes known as the loop switch.

Q. What can you offer to someone who is profoundly deaf and cannot hear on a standard phone?

A. There are a number of options, including telephones and mobiles which allow you to receive and send SMS messages, fax machines, e-mail or a textphone which lets you type a conversation.
