Texting: How Marjorie texts her Grand daughter at university

Marjorie, 74, sends emails and text messages to her friends and family on a regular basis. She is self taught and finds the technology easy to use, although she cannot use "advanced" functions such as predictive texting as she still finds these too complicated.

She was attracted to the services originally as it is a cheap and easy way to keep in touch. Lots of her friends also text and e-mail, however, she does still like to speak on the phone sometimes as it adds a "personal touch".

"I got my first mobile from BT in 2000 and it's has become invaluable as a way to keep in touch with friends and family, especially my granddaughter who is at University. I like to send her text messages as it's a very convenient and cheap way of keeping in touch."
