Diverse 6210: a hands free solution for Ian

Ian, aged 50, who lives in Swindon, has severely restricted dexterity as a result of Multiple System Atrophy, a rare condition affecting one in 100,000 people in the UK today. He had become increasingly reluctant to use the telephone because tremors in his hand meant that he could not hold the handset to his ear. His wife Liz explained that Ian is unable to leave the house and, because he just wouldn't use the telephone at all, he was losing contact with his family.

A member of the Consumer Affairs team suggested that Ian try the BT Diverse 6210, a cordless telephone with an earpiece and hands free facility that would enable him to talk on the telephone without having to hold the handset.

Ian found the hands free facility the most useful option. He can now make and receive calls while the handset rests in his lap and he rings his family and his wife several times a day. Ian said; "This is great. I can actually use the phone now."
