Big Button 100: Mrs Lewis uses memory buttons to keep connected

Mrs Lewis using a BT Big Button telephone

Mrs Lewis is registered blind and uses three BT Big Button telephones at home. The oldest model was bought six years ago through Gwent Association for the Blind but her son gave her an updated Big Button 100 for a Christmas present and she won another in a raffle. She is delighted with all of them as she uses the telephone as her lifeline. She has learnt where all the buttons are located and she uses Bumpons (raised self-adhesive bumps) in key locations such as the amplification and memory buttons.

She speaks to her son regularly and to make it easy for her to ring him she has his number stored in one of the quick memory keys located at the top of the telephone. Her hearing loss made it difficult for her to hear the telephone ring so Gwent Association for the Blind arranged for a Tonecaller to be fitted to the line.

The telephone information was just one of the many ways in which Gwent Association for the Blind helped Mrs Lewis and she thinks they are "wonderful and very supportive."

Gwent Association for the Blind works in partnership with BT as a Try Before You Buy centre where clients can try out products supplied by BT to make sure they suit their needs before making a purchase.
