BT TextDirect: Helping Mrs Young get a seamless connection

Mrs Young of East Devon is no longer able to hear on the telephone and so relies on the BT TextDirect service in order to keep in touch with friends and family. BT TextDirect gives a seamless connection for calls made between two textphones or between textphone and standard telephone. Calls to Mrs Young made in speech are transcribed by a Typetalk operator into text which Mrs Young is able to read on her Screenphone. She can then speak her reply. This is a particularly welcome option for Mrs Young who wants her voice to be heard on the telephone even though she cannot hear voices speaking to her. Another benefit of BT TextDirect is that it automatically calculates the discount given for telephone calls made in text and applies it to her BT bill.

Mr and Mrs Young talked to BT people at the South West Disability show held at Exeter's Westpoint arena in June 2008 and explained how grateful they were to BT for the BT TextDirect service, which is used frequently by Mrs Young.

"BT are very good" said Mr Young, "When you need them they do the job"
