Recommended features for users with imapired dexterity

This is a list of features that may be useful if you have difficulty controlling movement or holding objects. These features are available on many BT and non-BT products.

Easy Grip Handset

Some of our phone handsets have been designed to make them easier to pick up and hold.

Hands-free

If you have difficulty holding the handset of your phone for long periods of time, hands-free, also called loud-speaker, means you can have a conversation without having to hold the handset. You will hear the voice of the person you are speaking to  through a loudspeaker on the base unit of the phone and you can reply to them in the same way as the phone includes a small microphone

Headset

Lets you have a private, hands-free conversation

Last number redial

If the number you have dialled is engaged look for the last number redial button on your phone. You just have to press this once to try calling the number again.

Large Buttons

A Phone with large, clear keypad buttons may be useful if you have difficulty controlling hand or arm movements.

Memory Buttons

Memory Buttons are used to save the numbers you dial most often. You can either write or use the phone to store the name of the person against each memory button. This feature can be really useful if you have difficulty dialling.

On-hook Dialling

On-hook dialling lets you dial a number without lifting the handset if you have difficulty holding objects or controlling hand or arm movements.

Pre-Dial

Pre-dial lets you take as long as you need to dial a number, ideal if you sometimes take a long time. Once you have checked that the number is correct you can ring it by pressing the DIAL button and either use the telephone handsfree or lift the handset to speak.

Redial

Most phones have a redial button which lets you press just one button to try calling previously engaged numbers again.

1471 and  1571 buttons

Some of our phones include 1471 and 1571 buttons designed to provide easy access to BT Answer 1571 and 1471 Call Return.

2-Way Record

If you have difficulty writing things down when you are on the phone, look out for answer machines that include 2-way record. This means that you just have to press one button to record what you and the person you are talking to are saying.
