Product Features for people with mobility impairment

This is a list of features which may be helpful if you find it difficult to get to your phone The features are available on many BT and non-BT products.

Answer Machine

If you have difficulty getting to your phone an answer machine will give you the option of calling people back in your own time. As an alternative you could use an answering service on your phone line such as BT Answer 1571 or Call Minder

Cordless

Cordless phones can be useful if  you have problems moving around the home. As you  carry the handset with you, you are always near the telephone no matter where  you are when it rings. You can also use some cordless phones in the garden but  you will  need to check how far apart the handset and base unit can be and still work properly (known as the range ) when buying a new cordless phone.

Hands-free

Lets you have a conversation without holding the telephone handset. Most hands-free phones will let you sit a distance away from the phone, this may be helpful for people who use wheelchairs.

Phonebook

Stores a large number of names and numbers, so you have the numbers you want to call to hand.
