Recommended features for users who are blind or partially sighted

This is a list of features which may help you use your phone if you are blind or partially sighted. These features are available on many BT and non-BT products.


Audible Alert

Some Answer Machines rely on a small flashing light to let you know you have a message waiting. The audible alert feature is a beep instead of a flashing light to let you know you have a message waiting.

Backlit display

A backlit display makes it easier to read the screen on the phone

Contrasting Keypad

Some of our phones have contrasting keypads that make the buttons stand out from the phone. We can also provide keypad overlay stickers, which come in a range of colours and sizes. Contact us for further details.

Hands-free

Phones with a hands-free facility let you have a conversation without holding the handset, this means that instead of listening through the ear piece of your phone you will hear the voice of the person you are speaking to coming through a loudspeaker. This feature can be really helpful if you need to write or take Braille notes when you're on the phone.

Phones with headset option can be really helpful if you need to write or take Braille notes when you're on the phone.

Large Buttons

We now produce a number of corded and cordless phone with large clear buttons on the keypad. We can also provide self adhesive labels in a range of colours and sizes, which can make the keypad buttons more visible. Contact us for further details.

Liquid Crystal Display (LCD)

Many of our phones include an LCD which is a small screen that shows you numbers that you have dialled and other information such as details of who has called you if have the Caller Display service.

Last number redial

This useful features saves you having to re-dial a number in full if for example it is busy the first time you call it.

Memory Buttons

The Memory feature stores the numbers you call most often and lets you ring them again by pressing just 1 or 2 buttons.

One-Touch Memory Keys

The One-Touch memory keys give you easy access to the numbers you call most often and lets you ring them back by pressing just 1 button.

Raised dot on '5' button

Nearly all our phones include a raised dot on the '5' button designed to help you find the centre of the telephone keypad by touch alone

Speed dial

Lets you call some of your favourite numbers by just pressing down one button

Voice Prompts

Many of our phones include recorded instructions to help you set up and use your phone.

Wall Mounting

Gives you the option of putting the phone on the wall at eye level.

Zoom text

Enlarges the telephone number as it is being dialled.

1471 and 1571 Buttons

Pre-programmed keys that make it easy to access BT Answer 1471 and 1571.

2-Way Record

This useful feature is a great way of recording telephone conversations instead of writing notes.
