Textphones:
Making a textphone call

To make a call with a textphone:

  • Dial the number remembering to use the BT TextDirect code 18001

  • Wait for the other person to answer first

  • They will usually type 'Hello' or 'GA'

  • You can then start to type your conversation

'GA' is a shortword you will use a lot when using a textphone. It means Go Ahead and you use it to let the other person know it is their turn to type

'SK' is another popular shortword. It means Stop Keying and you use it to let the other person say goodbye before you finish your phone call
