BT TextDirect

BT TextDirect is the service that gives textphone users greater access to the telephone system.

Use BT TextDirect to talk to a textphone user, whether you use a text or voice phone.

To use BT TextDirect

Simply dial the correct BT TextDirect access code from the list below followed by the full national number of the person you want to call.

If the call is being made between someone using an ordinary voice phone and someone using a textphone, a RNID Typetalk operator will automatically join the call and translate typed words to voice and spoken words to text.

BT TextDirect access codes

  • 18001 - If you use a textphone and want to call someone who uses either a textphone or an ordinary voice phone

  • 18002 - If you use an ordinary voice phone and you want to call someone using a textphone

  • 18000 - If you use a textphone and you need to call the emergency services (police, fire, ambulance or coast guard) just dial 18000.

For more information, visit the RNID Typetalk website.
