How do I use Browsealoud to read text to me?

You can choose  how you would like  Browsealoud to read text to you.

  1. double click on the Browsealoud icon in your system tray
  2. Click on the Speech tab to set up your choice of Browsealoud voice. Adjusting the slider bars for pitch, speed and volume  changes how the voice will sound. Below these  is a list of different voices, including male and female British voices that you can choose from. You can also select the following:
    • Automatically speak when pointer hovers over text - if this is ticked , Browsealoud will read  aloud an area of text when you move your mouse over it.  It will  stop reading the text when you  move the mouse off it. If there is no tick in the box, Browsealoud will only read out blocks of text that you highlight.

    • Tapping CTRL key starts or stops speech - press your Ctrl key to start or stop Browsealoud reading.

    • If you use Internet Explorer to view web pages you can also choose that  Browsealoud  highlights  the words it is reading out on your screen. This can make it easier to follow what is being said. The colours used to highlight the text can be changed by clicking on the Settings tab.

    • Again if you use Internet Explorer you can set Browsealoud to "Continue reading from the pointer". This sets Browsealoud to continue reading the rest of the web page, after finishing the text you have selected.

More detailed instructions on using and setting up Browsealoud can be found on the Browsealoud website.
