Personal ComputersAt BT we believe that many of our older and disabled customers can benefit from our range of computers and accessories. We also understand that some people may need to make changes to a standard computer to make it easier to use. Whether you are thinking of changing your current PC or buying one for the first time, you need to decide whether you want a desktop or a laptop computer. We have put together some ideas to help you decide. Desktop computersIf you are planning to use a computer in one place either at home or at work, a desktop is probably the best option. With a desktop computer you will need a base unit, monitor, keyboard and mouse. Desktops are normally cheaper than laptops and are often easier to adapt if you are have a disability. At BT we sell either complete desktops or you can buy the base unit separately so that you can add a larger screen or a different type of mouse, for example a tracker ball mouse. Laptop computersA laptop (or the slightly smaller version, called a Notebook) has a rechargeable battery so you can use it anywhere in your home, at work or school. However laptops are usually more expensive and have small built-in screens and keyboards. If you need a different keyboard or mouse then you need to check that it can be plugged into the laptop you choose. What to look forAs well as thinking about where you want to use your PC you also need to think about what you will use it for. A PC is fine if you just want to get onto the internet, send e-mails or do homework. If you are going to download music, edit photos or play games, you need to check it has :
