Monitors, Mice and Keyboards

Most desktop PC packages include a monitor (screen), mouse and keyboard. However, in order to get the most from using your PC, it is really important that you use the most suitable monitor, mouse and keyboard for your needs. We have put together some guidelines to help you choose the most suitable computing accessories for your needs.

Monitors (Screens)

BT sells monitors which range in size from 15" - 19", we also sell high quality monitors which will make text and images clearer and sharper. However you may have a visual impairment which means you may prefer an even larger screen, for example a 21" display.

Some people with learning difficulties may prefer a touch screen. So instead of using a mouse or keyboard to find the right place on the screen, you just touch the screen, for example you could touch the 'Search' button on a website.

Mice

There are a wide range of mice available for computers and BT sells mice with features like wider scroll buttons, grip support and finger grooves as well as wireless and optical mice.

You can also change the way a standard mouse works, for example you can slow it down using the "Control Panel" on your PC.

However you might want to contact an organisation like AbilityNet for further advice on other types of pointing devices, such as a tracker ball or a joystick for people who have difficulty controlling movement.

Keyboards

At BT we offer ergonomic keyboards that provide extra flexibility and comfort. We also provide wireless keyboards which you may find useful if you have limited mobility. However you may need to consider other options ranging from coloured overlay stickers, which may be useful if you have a visual impairment or dyslexia, to a voice recognition system if you have limited movement.
