Gordon and Sylvia Carroll

Husband and wife, Gordon and Sylvia Carroll, regularly attend computer training classes at their local Age Concern centre in Newcastle. Both enjoy the challenge of learning new skills, and took up the lessons to keep up-to-date with new technologies.

Having access to so much information on the internet has been a huge benefit to them. Gordon said, "There's a lot of jargon associated with computers and the internet, but the classes help to cut through all of that. The lessons are so helpful and interesting and the important thing is that Sylvia and I can do them together."

Many of Gordon and Sylvia's friends have computers, enabling them to keep in touch via email. But e-mail isn't the only aspect that interests them. After a few more lessons, they are planning on trying their hands at word processing, internet banking and researching information for hobbies and interests.

Sylvia commented, "We don't have a computer at home just yet. The plan is that once we get to grips with it through these classes, we will then go and choose the best package for our needs."
