Paying bills and managing your accounts with broadbandMany companies like BT now encourage customers to use the Internet to pay their bills and manage their accounts. By using the Internet you can deal with your accounts in your own time and you often have more choices about the type of information that is provided. It is obviously important that organisations understand the need to produce accessible websites so that disabled customers can make the most of the Internet. At BT we are working hard to improve the accessibility of our websites, read our Accessible Website section for more information. On-line bankingIf your disability or medical condition makes it difficult for you to get into your local bank, many banks now encourage you to access your account through the Internet. There are also some banks that are on the Internet only. Online banking lets you set up and manage your bank or building society account as well as checking your balance, paying your bills and even arranging for a bank loan or mortgage. Some people who are deaf or hard of hearing or speech impaired may find on-line banking easier than making a phone call. Managing your accountsMany organisation that provide services like telephone, gas, electricity and even your local council have excellent on-line services. As well as paying your bills, Blind or partially sighted people using screen readers may find on-line information about things like local refuse collections or the amount of electricity they have used, easier to read than printed information. People with mobility impairments may be able to look up information about accessible parking from their council's website.
