Focus on ChildLine
At the heart of ChildLine's vital work lies communicating with children. Communication is our business. And so there has always been a natural synergy between our two organisations.
ChildLine provides an indispensable service to children and young people in need. See for yourself:
- Over the past 19 years, ChildLine counselled over 1.5 million children
- In 2004, ChildLine counselled more than 141,000 children about all kinds of problems and concerns
- 19 percent of children counselled (over 25,000) rang about physical or sexual abuse – sometimes both
- In 2004, calls about bullying increased an astonishing 42 percent
- 12 percent (nearly 17,000) rang about family relationship problems
- Other common problems included pregnancy, drug and alcohol abuse, self-harm and running away from home
Most significantly, ChildLine tells us that every day ChildLine answers calls from around 2,300 children. However, the enormous demand for the service means that thousands of other young people struggle to get through and often have to dial several times before receiving the counselling, comfort and advice that ChildLine can provide.
