Himalaya Treks

The Himalaya Trek for ChildLine has now raised over £73,000. The 30 trekkers faced adverse weather conditions while making their way through the Dhaula Dhar Himalayan mountain range. Highlights of the trek included a visit to the Taj Mahal, the Dalai Lama's home at McLeod Ganj and the temple at Norbulingka.

A further Himalaya trek is planned for the 6th – 16th May 2006, with 35 trekkers, including ten BT Global Services employees, preparing to climb through the ranges.

Partnership with That'll Be The Day tops £50,000 thanks to you

For the second year, That'll Be The Day is proud to support BT's ‘Am I Listening?’ campaign to raise funds for ChildLine, the UK's free, 24-hour telephone helpline for children and young people in danger and distress.

We achieved our target in the initial year by raising £50,000 from bucket collections, collected by BT volunteers at the end of our shows. If you would like to help please contact karen.spreadbury@bt.com.

In 2006 both ChildLine and That'll Be The Day celebrate their 20th Anniversary, and during this special year we aim to beat last year's target and raise funds in excess of £75,000.

Giant Sleepover

The Giant Sleepover has now generated over £28k for ChildLine. The event has been confirmed by the Guinness World Record as the largest ever sleepover, a record that we will try and break as we go for it again in 2006 – news will be posted soon about this year's event.

Blue Peter appeal

Piggybacking on ChildLine's Blue Peter Appeal, BT staff will be asked to donate their own obsolete personal mobiles to ChildLine. Each old mobile phone returned will earn ChildLine £3, which is enough to answer one child's call.

BT employee fundraising

  • John Daffern and colleagues from the BT Marketing Conditioning and Relationship Team raised £2701 with a pub quiz and auction.
  • Rose Hanson from the Company secretary's office raised £89 through the raffle of a hamper.
  • The BT Tower Showcase team raised over £3000 by organising a Santa's Grotto for BT employees' children on the 33rd Floor of the BT Tower.
  • Joy Potts and colleagues from BT Wolverhampton raised £418 by distributing the £3 cardboard coin cut-outs to everyone in Telecom House, Wolverhampton.

A great big thank you to all!
