The Big Question: NOP Research

BT's ‘Am I Listening?’ campaign commissioned NOP research to uncover the Big Question on the lips of the UK's young people. What would they like most like to ask adults who can do something about it? Interviews with one thousand children and young people showed that:

Ages 11-16

For nearly a third (31%) of 11-16 year olds the key question was related to neighbourhood facilities:

“Can we have more places to hang out and something to do in our area?”

Seventeen per cent asked “What can be done to make the area where I live feel safer?”.

The third most popular question was about listening, with 12% asking “What can young people do to make adults listen to what we want and take us seriously?”

Ages 7-10

For children aged 7-10, nearly over one quarter (27%) wanted to know “How can you help everybody in the world get along better and stop fighting?”

Twenty-three per cent of children agreed with their older counterpart, asking about facilities: “Can we have more places to play and things to do where we live?”

The third most popular issue was asked by twenty-one per cent of children: “What can be done to make the area where I live feel safer?”
