What is MyDonate?

MyDonate is a not-for-profit, online fundraising service for UK charities.  This service provides a secure, easy-to-use way for millions of people to raise money for the charity of their choice.

Why did BT decide to launch MyDonate?

The MyDonate service has been designed to complement existing charitable giving platforms. It gives fundraisers and donors more choice when raising money online to support their chosen charities.

We want to encourage as many people as we can to donate online and to help raise as much money as possible for charities.

How is BT funding the MyDonate service?

MyDonate is a not-for-profit service from BT. It is part of the investment we make to the community.

BT invests at least one per cent of its corporate pre-tax profits in the community and environment every year. At the end of March 2013, BT’s investment in society amounted to just over £27m over the previous 12 months - a combination of direct funding and in-kind support. This equates to 1.12% of our pre-tax profits.

Will BT be charging any commission from the funds raised on MyDonate?

No, BT will not make any money from donations made on MyDonate. In addition, we will not be making any charges for our administration or transaction fees so 100 per cent of the donation (excluding credit/debit card fees) goes to the charity of your choice.

What is your track record in this area?

BT is one of the world’s leading experts in online security and we are trusted by security-conscious organisations including high-street banks, the UK government and the Ministry of Defence.

Our eDonate system - the inspiration for the MyDonate service - has collected in excess of £160million to date for charities during telethons and disaster appeals, with every penny donated going to the target charity. For example, if you have supported the BBC’s Children in Need or the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) appeals by giving money online, you have already used BT’s secure online systems.

We do not use a third party to take payments. We have our own end-to-end processing system, BT Buynet. This same secure system is in use for customers paying their BT bills online and it complies with the payments industry security standards.
