Spotlight on Aid Bukavu Education
Our ‘Spotlight on’ feature is back by popular demand. This month we’ve been chatting to the people at Aid Bukavu Education – a charity based in the Democratic Republic of Congo – about their plans to bring literacy to the children of Bukavu in south Kivu.
An opportunity for every child
Children in the Democratic Republic of Congo face daily struggles as a result of war, insecurity and poverty. The majority of children are out of school and don’t receive any education.
Aid Bukavu Education believes that the best way to help lift Bukavu out of poverty and war is to educate local children.
Birindwa Lunja, chairwoman at the charity, explains their goal: “We want to create hope for children to pursue their own happiness. We do this by providing education and supporting them to become independent – giving them pathways to achieve their full potential.”
Investing in their future
The charity helps Bukavu’s children by paying for IT training and supporting them through their primary and secondary school education, both financially with school fees and with mentoring and advice.
On their plans for the future Birindwa says: “We are paying their school fees on a yearly basis, and empowering them through technology and innovation. We are also planning to open a computer learning centre for them, so they can create their own future and place less of a heavy burden on society.”
Free event fundraising
Birindwa says: “Our charity chose to use MyDonate because it’s free of charge to set up event fundraising and you receive your online donations quickly and easily.”
Aid Bukavu Education has a fundraising target of £60,000 this year. This will help them bring happiness and freedom to the children of Bukavu. You can help them with this vision by donating.
