Fundraiser ‪Becca Horner: why I chose MyDonate for my #30in2015 challenge‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

Becca Homer

“I would definitely recommend MyDonate to other fundraisers. My conscience feels happy that I have chosen a site that does not charge the charities what feels like a disproportionate amount to use their online tools.”

After a hip operation last October, fundraiser Becca Horner decided to set some health goals and raise money along the way, using MyDonate.

To celebrate turning 30 in 2015, Becca will be taking on a challenge to mark each year of her life.

Highlights of her 30 challenges include walking round the Isle of Wight (67 miles), learning to windsurf, running a half marathon, throwing herself into a bungee jump and taking up snowboarding. And to finish it off Becca wants to complete a full marathon.

She’ll be using her birthday challenges to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Beat cancer sooner

Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through research. The charity’s pioneering work into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer has helped save millions of lives.

Funds raised by people like Becca support research into all aspects of cancer through the work of over 4,000 scientists, doctors and nurses.

Thanks to research, the UK’s cancer survival rate has doubled over the last 40 years and around half of patients now survive the disease for more than 10 years. However, one in two people will develop cancer at some point in their lives, so more support is needed to beat this disease.

A very personal cause

Becca is determined to do her best to support Cancer Research UK so that families and friends do not go through the pain of loss from cancer.

She explains: “My dad died suddenly of cancer in 2007, completely out of the blue. One day he wasn't feeling well and nine days later he had died. My nan on my mother's side also died, after suffering from cancer. A close friend has also experienced cancer, which is currently in remission.”

MyDonate has been easy to use

Becca is full of praise for the MyDonate online fundraising service, saying: “It has been easy to navigate and use, and I have been able to share the link successfully on social media and on my blog site.”
