'It's a Knockout' returns for Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice
Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice summer fundraising event proved to be a knockout success.
In July the charity hosted its version of the popular cult TV show from the 1970s, ‘It’s a Knockout’ for the third consecutive year.
And it was such a success, plans are already in place to do it again in 2016.
More than 300 people competing in teams of colleagues, families and friends took part in games such as ‘slippery summit’ and ‘all hands on deck’. The event was held as part of a Family Fun Day which welcomed a further 400 people who got to enjoy various craft stalls and bouncy castles.
More than £28,000 raised
Founded in 1998, Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice in Sheffield offers care and support to children with a shortened life expectancy, both at the hospice and in their homes.
The charity supports more than 200 children with life limiting conditions and complex medical needs. It costs over £3m a year to keep the hospice’s doors open.
“It is anticipated our event raised more than £28,000 for the hospice,” says Jo Berry, events fundraiser at Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.
“We had wonderful weather this year and everyone got into the spirit of the day. There was a lot of friendly rivalry between teams.
“We’d like to say a huge thanks to everyone who took part, we hope everybody enjoyed the day as much as we did.”
Making every moment count
Jo says it’s very important to the charity to maximise the money fundraisers generate for the charity ensuring it goes directly to the children and families who are facing extremely tough times.
“With MyDonate we can be sure all the donations will reach us, apart from the credit and debit card fees. It means a huge amount to us as we’re here to make every moment count, providing love and laughter as well as specialist support,” she adds.
The charity will be hosting its fourth ‘It’s a Knockout’ event on 2 July 2016.
