Canal bike ride is a boost for Scouts

Leeds Liverpool Canal CycleSeven Scout leaders and their friends have successfully cycled 127.5 miles from Liverpool to Leeds along the towpath of the North of England’s longest canal.

The bike ride was part of on-going efforts to raise some £30,000 for a new roof for the 4th Spen Valley (Liversedge) Scouts in Yorkshire. Organisers said that money raised from the ride would be split with Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

The group took 12 hours to cycle 85 miles along the Leeds and Liverpool Canal on day one. The remaining 42.5 miles took five hours on day two.

“We had three punctures, one burst tyre valve and three people fell off – but we had a great time,” said scout leader Neal Edmondson who admitted that he was a little sore on Monday.

“We’ve completed a number of events over the last couple of years to raise money for our Scout hut and hopefully, our total should be near six or seven thousands pounds after this ride.
