Charities give thumbs up to MyDonate

Thumbs up!More than 500 charities have signed up to the MyDonate service since its launch in April – with hundreds of other charities set to join in the coming weeks.

Some of the sector’s most well-known names, including Citizens Advice, Save The Children and Scope, as well as an increasing number of smaller charities such as Cobnor Activities Centre, Anthony Nolan, Lomand Mountain Rescue and Sunny Harbour Cat & Kitten Rescue, have all joined up over the past few months.

They now find themselves enjoying the benefits of the online service alongside founding charity partners Cancer Research UK, Changing Faces, KidsOut, NSPCC and Women’s Aid.

The service has also proved highly popular with fundraisers who are using MyDonate to support them at a variety of events including the Three Peaks Challenge, the Greater Manchester Run and the New York Marathon.

MyDonate ambassador, Ben Fogle said: “MyDonate allows everyone to donate money to their chosen cause, safe in the knowledge that one hundred per cent of it is going to the right place. It is a genuine turning point for charities and means we can all raise more money for the charities closest to our hearts.”

Welcome addition

According to Debbie Bines, head of fundraising at disability charity Scope, MyDonate is a very welcome addition to the online fundraising market.

She said: “It’s a quick and free way for people to donate to charity which means that more of the money we raise can go towards our work with disabled people.”

Her views were echoed by Barry Colgate, chairman of the Cobnor Activities Centre which provides outdoor educational activities for children and young people, including the disadvantaged and disabled.

He said: “MyDonate is making it easier for us, as a smaller charity, to raise funds, without us having to pay overheads such as set-up fees. It’s good to know that all monies raised via this site will go direct to helping our many users to benefit from physical activity and gaining increased personal confidence from their own achievements.”
