What is Giving Tuesday?

#GivingTuesday

Taking place on Tuesday 29 November, just after Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday is all about bringing people together for one common cause: celebrating charity and the act of giving.

What we’re doing

MyDonate and Charities Aid Foundation will be hosting the Giving Tuesday launch event at the BT Tower. Last year we managed to raise an amazing £139,000 from our BT Tower Dining Club event which went to eight charities. This year we want to top that!

Get yourself noticed

Giving Tuesday provides charities with the perfect platform to reach out to current and new supporters. You can attract attention to your cause, and even do some fun campaign work to get people interested. Last year, Send a Cow created a parody of the ‘man on the moon’ John Lewis ad (‘cow on the moon’) – which was a fun and interesting ways to engage with supporters, old and new.

It was brought over to the UK (from the US) two years ago and last year managed to trend on Twitter for 11 hours straight. It raised £6,000 a minute for UK charities and broke the world record for the most amount of money donated online in 24 hours. A pretty impressive feat. It’s been so successful, that is now runs in over 70 countries around the world – including Canada, Germany, Spain and Australia.

And don’t forget, here at MyDonate, we’re the perfect platform to use for the big day. As we don’t take any commission, as much money as possible will go directly to your charity.
