Discover how fundraiser Ben successfully promoted his 400km HopeAsia bike ride
Ben Shakeshaft is a 20-year old fundraiser with an appetite for adventure.
He’s been busy promoting his Burma Cycle Challenge - a 400km round trip cycle ride through Burma, over five days, in aid of HopeAsia. Ben isn’t setting off until the end of October but that hasn’t stopped him from embracing social media to drum up scores of donations.
“Share your challenge through Facebook and Twitter” Ben is using Facebook to promote his challenge, sharing news and updates with friends and encouraging people to pass on the donation link. On the Twitter front he has been encouraging retweets and mentions from celebrities including Valorie Curry (The Twilight Saga), MyAnna Buring (Ripper Street) and Ellen Hollman (Spartacus) – which in turn has widened his audience. You can follow him @theshakeshaft.
Get visual with a YouTube video
What’s really impressive, however, is his ‘Ben does Burma’ video on YouTube, which has already racked up more than 6,000 views.
It’s really easy to create a YouTube video – just get a friend to film you on a mobile and upload the video onto the YouTube website. Find out more about how to upload, edit and share your fundraising videos on YouTube.
Remind potential donors with a business card
To make sure his fundraising message stayed with potential donors Ben printed some eye-catching business cards.
Use MyDonate’s fab, free fundraising service
Says Ben: “MyDonate has been great to use because it's so easy and simple to understand and use, which is great because this part should be the easy bit!”
It was HopeAsia who recommended MyDonate to Ben – and he hasn’t looked back. Charities like HopeAsia use MyDonate to make every penny count.
HopeAsia was set up in 2007 to care for some of the poorest and most vulnerable children in the world.
A safe place to call home
At present the charity is supporting two main projects: a children's home in Yangon, Myanmar and an orphanage in rural Cambodia.
Funds raised by people like Ben mean HopeAsia can refurbish the orphanage and make sure the children have a safe place to call home - where they are fed, educated and cherished.
