Fresh dose of Icelandic sea air spurs on marathon runners
Later this month Jodi and Hazel will be running a marathon with a difference. They’ll be taking part in the Íslandsbanki Reykjavik Marathon on Saturday 24th August.
Welcoming runners from 58 different countries, the marathon offers a stunning combination of panoramic views of the mountains north of Reykjavik and a strong dose of fresh Icelandic sea air.
The marathon also coincides with 'Culture Night' (Menningarnótt), a national event that brings up to a third of the entire population of Iceland onto the streets of the capital.
They’ll be pounding the streets of Rekjavik to raise money for medical charity, Motec Life-UK, specifically for the charity’s NuwLife (Nutrition Working for Life) Project.
Providing rehabilitation and support for West Ghana
Hertfordshire based Motec Life-UK is a medical charity dedicated to providing educational, training and health care services to the underprivileged people of the West African subcontinent.
The charity’s NuwLife Project focuses on the rehabilitation of undernourished children based in the town of Jirapa, West Ghana.
The charity generates funds to sustain the care of the children whilst supporting their parents with education programmes and advice on nutrition.
It’s a cause close to Jodi’s heart.
She said: “We believe in the work that MOTEC is doing through their NuwLife Project in the north of Ghana, which is setting up a programme of training and support for parents of malnourished children. It is especially for mothers of children in hospital but also for those at risk in the community.”
Simple, easy to use gift aid collection
Jodi believes MyDonate’s free fundraising service has been very easy to use.
She said: “It’s very easy for friends and family anywhere, including worldwide, to access and donate. There is no charge, which means that every penny donated goes directly to MOTEC. I have used another similar company before but they charge, so changed to MyDonate.”
For Paul Ofori-Atta, president for Motec-Life UK, MyDonate’s gift aid collection service is a lifeline for charities like theirs.
He said: “MyDonate helps secure extra for donations without going through the tedious process of the traditional gift aid applications and forms.”
