Kicking off for charity: BT MyDonate supports Soccer Aid's 10th anniversary

 Soccer

Soccer Aid brings together some of the world’s biggest stars from sport, television, film and music to raise money for Unicef’s work with children. Started ten years ago by Unicef UK ambassador Robbie Williams and Jonathan Wilkes and airing exclusively on ITV, the event has raised an impressive £17 million to date. The matches’ star-studded line-up has included legendary players, including Diego Maradona, Ronaldinho and Zinedine Zidane.

Taking to the pitch this year were One Direction's Louis Tomlinson, popstar Olly Murs and TV presenters Paddy McGuinness and Jamie Theakston as goalie – among others. They were joined by some of the greatest names in English footballing history, including Robbie Fowler, Sol Campbell and Jermain Defoe.

The England team took on the Rest of the World – including Ronaldinho, Samuel Eto'o and Dida. And taking centre spot as special Guest of Honour at this year’s match was football legend, Pelé.

Many offsides, some cheeky tackles and a few yellow cards later, England were crowned the reigning Soccer Aid Champions with a 3-2 victory.

BT MyDonate was the official donation platform for this year’s event, and Call centre agents were busy answering calls for the Soccer Aid Telethon Appeal with four BT call centres taking calls during the evening. To top it all off, the UK government will match every pound donated – and with BT MyDonate taking 0% commission, your money will make an even bigger difference. The donations will help Unicef provide children with nutritious food, vaccines and clean water, and protect them from violence, exploitation and abuse.
