TEECH volunteers gear up for this summer's Moldovan mission. Can you help?

Moldovan mission

A team of 30 volunteers from TEECH is gearing up for a return to Moldova this summer to take part in the Telecoms Eastern European Challenge (TEECH).

The volunteers will spend eight days at a school in Grozesti - a small village on the western border between Moldova and Romania - helping to renovate a school.

No running water

TEECH aims to improve the lives of poor communities by installing sanitary ware into schools, orphanages and elderly residences where no indoor toilets exist.

During this year’s visit, from the 15th to 30th August, the team will work on the renovation project at the village school, which is attended by around 200 children. Grozesti doesn’t have running water so the team will be connecting water to the school, using pumps from a nearby well.

Once connected, the volunteers will create two bathrooms, one for the girls and one for the boys. They’ll install toilets, showers, sinks and hot and cold water – removing the need for outside drop toilets currently used by the children.

All donations go into a project

TEECH trustees and volunteers are 100 per cent unpaid and so all donations go towards the project.

Funds are required to purchase supplies for the project. Specifically, the charity is buying a septic tank for the waste water to feed into. The tank will be installed by hand in the grounds of the school. All the plumbing and electrical supplies are purchased by the charity through funds raised, including the sanitary ware and the water boilers.

Funds raised will also be used to distribute essential clothing, toys and books to local communities.

Holly Field, secretary for TEECH, explains why the charity decided to use MyDonate to make this project happen:

“TEECH opted for MyDonate because no fee is taken from the charity to use the service provided by BT. All donations go straight into a project and when volunteers join the team for a trip they see that donations made in the UK are taken or utilised by the charity where they are needed. MyDonate is also very easy for the charity to use and monitor donations, along with thanking those who support us.”

Can you help?

The team at TEECH is keen to recruit trade skilled and unskilled (but highly motivated) volunteers who may be interested in joining this year’s mission. To find out more please contact Holly Field holly@teech.org
