Northern Ireland unveils first register of charities

Giants Cawseway

The Charity Commission for Northern Ireland is the new independent regulator for charities in Northern Ireland.

The body has just started their registration process and is currently accepting applications from newly formed charities as well as existing charities in Northern Ireland.

It is estimated that there are between 7,000 and 12,000 charities operating in Northern Ireland. As a result, registration will be a managed process over coming years, with charitable organisations called forward by the Commission in batches to apply to register.

If you are a newly created charity operating in Northern Ireland, you can find out more about the registration system on the Charity Commission’s website.
