Laid back Richard puts his own spin on round-the-world bike ride
Fundraiser Richard Evans is taking a laid back attitude to fundraising. This spring he is setting off to pedal round the world. But this is no ordinary bike. He’ll be riding a recumbent - a bicycle that places the rider in a laid back reclining position.
He’ll be raising money for Road Peace – the national charity for road crash victims. Richard worked with Road Peace a few years ago. Today he remains deeply touched by their fortitude and determination to help families cope and recover after road death and injury, and their campaign for justice for crash victims and road danger reduction.
Providing a national helpline
As a small membership charity, RoadPeace relies on the involvement and generosity of its members and supporters.
Donations and funds raised through ventures like Richard’s are used to help run its national helpline – a vital first point of contact for many of the people injured or bereaved because of a road crash.
Funds are also needed to offer victims one-to-one practical and emotional support from of a team of befrienders. These are volunteers who have themselves been injured or bereaved and who can offer real understanding at a time when it is most needed.
Maximising Richard’s fundraising efforts
Speaking about his decision to use MyDonate Richard said: “MyDonate hands over more of the donations to charity than similar fundraising websites.”
On behalf of Roadpeace, Campaigns manager Sara Dowling adds: “We are so grateful for the support of amazing fundraisers like Richard. His hard work and determination will ensure that we can continue with our vital work helping families cope with the trauma of road death. It’s great too that more of Richard’s fundraising efforts will go straight to our organisation because of BT MyDonate’s low administrative costs.”
