Saving Lola and The Animal Sanctuary

The Animal Sanctuary is appealing to donors for urgent funds to nurse Lola - an abandoned horse – back to health. In the long-term, the Buckinghamshire charity is seeking funds to secure the future of a much-needed animal rehabilitation centre in Dorney.

Lola’s story

Lola was found tied to The Animal Sanctuary’s gate one February morning during the height of the floods.

Totally emaciated, with cysts, a possible melanoma on her shoulder and damaged teeth, Lola was extremely frightened and in obvious pain and discomfort.

Lola was taken in, fed and watered, and is slowly making her way back to health. She is now living in the grounds of The Animal Sanctuary – a charity that rescues and rehabilitates mistreated, surrendered and abandoned animals.

Promoting animal welfare through the community

Through rehoming animals, The Animal Sanctuary promotes responsible and compassionate ownership of animals in the local community.

Local schoolchildren are given the opportunity to visit and learn how animals should be treated.

They also offer a place of respite for people with special needs. Caring for animals like Lola provides a therapeutic experience for visitors suffering from stress, depression and disability.

Volunteer Ros Grevett explains: "We offer and promote a program of inclusion to the elderly, the physically disabled and other socially disadvantaged people in the community. This assists in the integration process, ensuring they can contribute to and participate in community life."

Urgent rescue funds needed

A donation-funded organisation, the Animal Sanctuary is dedicated to the welfare of all animals. Since they opened in June 2012 they have saved and rescued more than 300 abandoned and abused animals.

However, as Ros stresses, donations are urgently required to feed these rescued animals, nurse them, pay vet fees, and ensure they remain safe and secure.

A trusted global brand

Speaking on behalf of the charity, Ros said: “We decided to work with BT MyDonate as BT is a very well known and trusted global brand, so donors will feel comfortable making their donation online.”
