MyDonate celebrates second birthday

Happy 2nd birthdayMyDonate, the free online fundraising service from BT, was launched back in April 2011.

Two years on, and the service has grown to become more popular than ever with charities, donors and fundraisers.

Over 3,600 charities are now actively using the service with around sixty new ones joining up every week.

And who can blame them?

Because unlike other online services, MyDonate makes no charges at all to charities, or their fundraisers or donors.

In the current economic climate, making every penny count makes absolute sense.

For example, with MyDonate, a £10 donation by credit card can result in £12.37 going direct to the charity, once the credit card company has taken their 1.3 per cent fee.

That’s because with MyDonate, Gift Aid is collected free adding an extra 25 per cent to donations.

Natural choice

It’s benefits like these that have made MyDonate a natural choice for so many charities over that last two years– especially small and medium-sized charities.

Childreach International has been an enthusiastic user and advocate of MyDonate from the start.

Said Greg Clark from the Childreach International: “Over the last couple of years, our online fundraising activities have matured significantly thanks to MyDonate. In fact, as a charity, we feel as if we’ve been on the same journey since the service first emerged. It certainly wouldn’t have been the same without MyDonate and the brilliant service it provides for our fundraisers and donors. Happy Birthday MyDonate.”

Ease of use

The service has also proved a big hit with the UK’s fundraising community – many of whom are impressed with the service’s ease of use and functionality – as well as the fact that all the money they raise will go to the cause they are fundraising for – not just ‘most’ of it.

Fundraiser Sinead Faherty explains why she is an avid user:

“Using MyDonate for my event was a no-brainer given the fact that there is no charge to me or the supported charity – it gave me a real sense of security that the money I was raising would go to the best cause.”

She continued: “But the main reason I’ve loved using MyDonate is the team functionality – I’m running a large scale event with 60 fundraisers, who have all linked their pages to our team page – it creates a real sense of teamwork, and it’s so exciting to see our grand total rising every day! Thanks, MyDonate!”

Dave Wiggins from MyDonate said: “In the last two years MyDonate has helped to change the face of online fundraising in the UK. Charities, fundraisers and donors now recognise and accept that online fundraising can be free, and that donations can go further.”

Always improving

He added: “The last two years have seen the MyDonate service get better and better. Exciting new features have been added such as the ability to use MyDonate remotely through mobile devices or our new Popular Events feature which enables charities to create personal fundraising pages linked to mass participation events like the BUPA Great Run series or the London Marathon.”

“But we’re not stopping there because we are committed to continually improving the service for the benefit of MyDonate’s users.”
