Andy's Swiss Cycle Challenge

Andy and his bike

Andy Taylor is an ordinary bloke with an extraordinary dream - to cycle the length of every western European country - and raise a shed load of cash for charity along the way.

He aims to cross at least one country every year and this summer Andy’s mission is to cycle 600km through Switzerland. Passing lush lakes and majestic mountain, from Geneva to Lake Constance and the Austrian border, he’ll be raising money for Kenya Thriving and its ‘Homes for orphans’ project in southern Kenya.

Homes for orphans

In 2012 Kenya Thriving launched a project to build homes for orphans. Not big buildings, which turn into institutions, but small houses where a family can flourish and feel at home.

Since then, Kenya Thriving has built two substantial, single storey houses that are now filled with the sound of laughter and play. They plan to build and equip two more houses during 2015 – projects that will be made possible thanks to supporters like Andy. Find out more about their projects in Kenya.

Fire up people’s imagination

Andy has worked hard to inspire people into donating. “Make it personal” he said. “One of the things I really find engages people is feeling like they are giving to identifiable people rather than a ‘faceless’ charity.”

As for using MyDonate he said: “I was recommended the MyDonate website by the charity – it gives a greater percentage of donations to them compared to other giving websites.”

Coral Hart, from Kenya Thriving said: “We are very proud and deeply grateful to Andy and his family for their commitment to this project and for their courage in undertaking another epic ride to raise funds. We built two houses with funds raised from Andy’s first ride (Taylors Tour de France) and hope to build two more from his Ride Across Switzerland. Every single penny donated will be spent on the project in Kenya.”
