Folklore and castles galore for fundraising trek in Transylvania

Transylvania

There’s more to the home of Dracula than gothic castles and Bram Stoker’s myths of blood and gore.

This August it will provide a stunning backdrop for fundraiser Jayne Harms who is trekking across the Transylvanian Alps.

The trek will raise money for Action on Bladder Cancer (ABC) – the UK charity purely focused on improving the lives of people with bladder cancer.

Bladder cancer: the forgotten killer

It is estimated that every year, approximately 10,000 people are diagnosed with bladder cancer in the UK – a number that is on the increase.

Despite it being the fourth most common cancer in men, and eleventh in women, public awareness of bladder cancer is very limited.

Dedicated to helping people understand more about bladder cancer, ABC’s focus is tri-fold – awareness-raising, balancing research and campaigning.

Fundraising in memory of Michael

Jayne’s spine-tingling trek will not only raise precious funds for ABC – she is walking in the memory of her friend Michael.

Sadly, Jayne’s friend passed away from the disease in June 2013. Jayne says: “I am hoping that if we raise awareness of bladder cancer, others may be helped with early diagnosis.”

100 per cent of funds to combat bladder cancer

Funds raised from the trip will help Action on Bladder Cancer to continue to improve public awareness, medical knowledge and the priority of bladder cancer on the UK health agenda.

Mr Hugh Mostafid, chair of Action on Bladder Cancer said: “We are extremely grateful to Jayne for this daring challenge and to all of our supporters for their tremendous support for our work.”

Speaking about MyDonate Jayne said: “The donating procedure is very straight forward and the web site very easy to use.”

Debra Lord,
secretariat for Action on Bladder Cancer added: “We use MyDonate as we understand that MyDonate doesn’t take any commission on the donations raised so 100 per cent of the donation money goes to the charity.”
