You'll never pedal alone: historic fundraiser in Bill Shankly's honour

The Shankly Bike Ride, set up in the great football manager’s honour, will take place this August. Funds raised will beshankly used by the Liverpool FC Foundation to help improve people’s lives.

The historic ride, from Glasgow to Liverpool, will take place during the lead up to the anniversary of what would have been Shankly’s 100th birthday.

Paying homage to ‘Bill’

Setting off on the 29th of August with a lap of the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow, scores of avid supporters and cycling enthusiasts alike will be pedaling 270 miles.

The ride, led by Liverpool Football Club legends Robbie Fowler and Steve Harkness, will pay homage to William Shankly by cycling through the key landmarks of his life and career.

From Ayrshire to Glenbuck, the birthplace of Shankly, the ride will venture on to Carlisle United where Shankly made his first team appearance. The final stage of the ride will begin at Preston North End and the Shankly Kop. For those cyclists and Reds alike who find the prospect of 270 miles just a bit too much, fans are also invited to sign up for this final stage of just 33 miles. From Preston the group will then be pedaling through Merseyside past the hallowed turf of Anfield to finish at Liverpool’s famous Pier Head.
