Nailsea walkers and runners put the 'fun' into fundraising

Excitement is building in and around the Somerset town of Nailsea as the local community gets ready to hold one of the biggest events of the year.

The Nailsea Charity Walks and Runs 2015 event takes place on Sunday June 28th. It’s an opportunity for people to walk or run for enjoyment and raise funds for their own favourite charity or local community organisation at the same time.

The event is organised by The Rotary Club of Nailsea & Backwell.

Organiser Graham Hunt from the local rotary club says:

‘”The beauty of this event is that just about anybody can take part and join in the fun. They just need to be able to manage a minimum of five kilometres. There is no minimum or maximum age and the 5k route is wheelchair, pushchair and child’s scooter friendly.”

Superb views

“We also have 10k and 20k routes both of which offers some superb views along the way.”

Graham adds: “Last year’s Walk and Runs event raised more than £18,500 for deserving local charities and community organisations - which was amazing. We’re hoping to exceed that sum this year.”

It’s an experience that’s also beloved by the local community.

"We really enjoyed taking part in the charity walks last year,” says Louise Turner from the Children’s Hospice South West.

“The route took me to parts of Nailsea that I didn’t even know existed! It was also great to see all the different charities being supported at one event and with so many different types of people taking part it really brought the community out and about.”

Richard Lewis, a club member since 1992 adds: “I’m looking forward to taking part in the 10k walk. Helping other people is second nature to all Rotarians.”

Getting more out of sponsorship

To help raise as much money as possible, the organisers of the event have looked no further than MyDonate for online fundraising, as Graham Hunt explains:

“With MyDonate it’s easy to set up an event sponsorship page and fundraisers pages. We also receive sponsorship funds and the Gift Aid recovery promptly and regularly.”

“We also get more out of the actual sponsorship monies than we would using most other online fundraising services and we can be confident in the financial stability of MyDonate due to the backing by BT.”
