Consent for Cookies - BT MyDonate

Your consent for cookies

In May 2012, the EU Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations comes into force in the UK.

The regulations make it clear that all UK websites need to get consent from people visiting the site to store ‘cookies’ on their computers. And so at some point when you visit the MyDonate site from May, you will see a pop-up message asking for your consent for MyDonate to install cookies on your computer.

Cookies are very small text files that are stored on your computer when you visit some websites. At MyDonate we use cookies to make our website easier for you to use. They allow us, for example, to automatically remember your personal preferences and to make other services and features available to you (for instance Twitter and Facebook).

When you visit the MyDonate site over the coming weeks, you will be presented with a consent form asking you to give us permission to use cookies on your computer (or other devices). The form will include a slider that can be dragged or clicked to one of three options:

1. ‘Strictly necessary and performance’

2. ‘Functional’

3. ‘Targeting’

Each slider position will show a description of what that option will and won’t allow us to do. You can see that there are three levels of consent with ‘Strictly necessary and performance’ being the most secure.

You choose

You should select the level of consent you are most comfortable with based on what you wish to allow and disallow.

It’s worth noting that unless the ‘targeting’ option is allowed then we cannot offer the use of third party features such as Twitter and Facebook to you while you use the MyDonate service.

But please remember, you can change your preferred consent level any time you like. There will be an option to return to the consent form and change your consent level by clicking on the link at the bottom of every page on the MyDonate website.
