BT wins global Green Award

BT has been named winner of the ‘Green Award’ at this year’s World Communication Awards (WCA) in London.
The ‘Green Award’ is a new addition to the high profile prizes awarded by the WCA, and aims to reward companies making significant progress in tackling Corporate Social & Environmental Responsibility issues.
The World Communication Awards are now in their tenth year and are widely recognised as the leading global industry event of its kind. The scheme, which this year celebrated a ‘Decade of Excellence’, recognises personal and corporate success within the industry and rewards companies and individuals responsible for the innovations, achievements and great new services that are helping to build tomorrow’s industry.
Overall BT had a strong showing at this year’s awards. In addition to winning the ‘Green Award’ BT was highly commended for both ‘Best Global Operator’ and ‘Best Wholesale Carrier’, and was a finalist for ‘Best Customer Care’.
Caroline Sheridan Director, Corporate Responsibility, BT Group said: “Responsible behaviour and sustainable development matter to BT and we are proud that our achievements in this area have been recognised with the WCA Green Award. It is a valuable endorsement for the positive contribution we are making to society and the environment”.
The judges were impressed by BT’s CSR strategy, describing it as “A broad, thorough and international approach to environment and CSR issues”. The panel also applauded the company’s aspirations to create the best working environment for its employees and its commitment to a wide range of charitable initiatives, concluding by commenting: “An excellent entry with plenty of statistics and supporting information”.
