Broadband Britain gets an injection of speed

BT engineerAround 20 million UK homes and businesses (around 80% of the UK) will be able to access speeds of up to 20Mbps thanks to BT Wholesale’s decision to extend the availability of advanced copper broadband.

By the end of 2011, around eight in ten homes and businesses will be able to hook up to the faster broadband giving people an even better broadband experience.

Today, the advanced copper broadband service is being used by more than 2.25 million end users with a further 30,000 lines being added each week.

By the end of the year it’s expected some 20 million homes and businesses will be able to hook up to the new faster service.

Said Cameron Rejali, Managing Director, Products, BT Wholesale: “This announcement is further evidence of BT’s commitment to deliver next generation broadband services across the UK.

“Running over BT’s 21st Century Network, WBC offers communications providers the ability to provide their broadband customers with greater control, choice and flexibility as well as higher speeds,” he said

News of the increased speed level will be welcomed by homes and businesses up and down the country as the take-up of internet TV, online gaming and multiple voice over internet protocol (VoIP) services increases.
