Six in ten (58 per cent) of UK businesses maintain that superfast broadband is vital to their business, according to a report out today.
According to a survey of 1,224 firms carried out in March 2011, accessing the internet and downloading rich media has become a key requirement for any business owner for sourcing information, working with partners and, critically, selling to customers.
The relevance of social media and cloud computing were also cited by businesses as they look to grow over the next 12 months.
A Window of Opportunity: Small Business Report 2011 was compiled by small business support company Enterprise Nation with support from BT.
Said Brendan Dick, managing director, BT Regions: “This is a timely report and we welcome the findings. We’re particularly encouraged because it brings home the importance of superfast broadband to small businesses.
“Our roll-out of superfast broadband to two thirds of the UK by 2015 is providing UK businesses with the help they need to succeed. No-one else is doing more than BT to help small businesses get connected. And we’ll continue to do our part to help business grow” he said.
The report makes ten recommendations which it says would encourage people to start-up their own business while providing greater support for existing businesses.
One of the recommendations is to “build infrastructure of superfast broadband and affordable workspace to create the right conditions for start-up and growth”.
