Superfast Cornwall – the initiative to bring superfast fibre broadband to up to 90 per cent of premises in the county and the Isles of Scilly – has been shortlisted as a finalist in World Communications Awards for “Project of the Year”.
Working with the Cornwall Development Company, BT began working on the project in September 2010. Today, the roll-out is continuing at pace with more and more homes and businesses signing up for the service.
Financed using an innovative gap-funded model under which BT is providing £78.5m and European Regional Development Fund is providing up to £53.5m, the initiative will boost the county’s economy by creating new opportunities for existing businesses, attracting inward investment and improving the delivery of education and council services.
The World Communication Awards recognise the companies and individuals responsible for the innovations, achievements and great new services that are helping to build tomorrows industry. The winners will be announced on November 7.
