Access to information and services is at the heart of British Interactive
Broadcasting's Open service, to be launched in the Autumn. British
Interactive Broadcasting is a consortium made up of BT, BSkyB, HSBC and
Matsushita to provide interactive television services. Open will
make television a gateway to the virtual High Street, giving access to
home shopping, home banking, education, entertainment, information, games
and more.
Services will be beamed into customers' homes via satellite, and the BT
network will be used by viewers to interact back down the line. BT plans
to provide an e-mail service for Open, so customers can stay in
touch with friends and family the world over.
